Elizabeth sits down with Francine Mbvoumbo, President of Mothers to Daughters M2D, to discuss how to utilize the intergenerational knowledge transfer from mentors and role models to be a better professional and better person.
Intergenerational Knowledge transfer is another term for mentoring. Francine calls it the 'Art of Possible.' She describes how a young woman needs to seek out the knowledge and experience of more experienced women. The secret sauce is being appreciative; welcome the guidance with gratitude. At the same time, the mentor should lead with storytelling, rather than direct instruction; Describe their process of learning to instruct the next generation. Share mistakes because mistakes do not need to be repeated.
Sometimes this is uncomfortable, but by being comfortable with the uncomfortable and adopting practices that encourage introspection, young women can build character and move forward.
