She was a history-maker, a healer, and a heart specialist in every sense of the word. On 17 March, we sat down with Canada’s first Black female Interventional Cardiologist — a woman who redefined what’s possible in medicine. Her story was about breaking barriers, embracing identity, and changing the way care is delivered across cultures and communities. We talked about mentorship, women’s heart health, and how leadership with heart is shaping the next generation. She redefined what it means to heal with both skill and purpose. It was an inspiring and empowering conversation — one you won’t want to miss. Elizabeth was joined by Dr. Alexandra Bastiany, a physician at Surrey Memorial Hospital in British Columbia. She is also a recipient of the Women Empowerment Awards Leadership Award. Empowered partnered with the Women Empowerment Awards, which were held in September 2025.
