25 January, we’re tackling a condition that affects millions of women but often goes undiscussed — Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS. For some, the symptoms seem to strike out of nowhere; for others, the warning signs build gradually over time. Why do so many people describe feeling “six months pregnant” after a meal, and what’s really going on in the gut? Elizabeth is joined by Dr. Rahima Hirji, a leading naturopathic doctor with a focus on digestive health, to break down what IBS is, why it affects women differently, and how we can better understand and manage this complex condition.
On this episode:
As people live longer, adult children are increasingly navigating difficult conversations about health, money, driving, housing, safety, and independence, often while juggling careers and kids of their own. These talks can feel overwhelming, but handled well, they can help our parents live better, safer, and more dignified lives for longer. Elizabeth is joined by Laura Tamblyn Watts, LLB, ICD.D, the CEO of CanAge, Canada’s national seniors’ advocacy organization and a leading expert on law, aging, and elder justice.

In October 2025, I traveled to Ghana with Opportunity International Canada and today’s guest, Caroline Munshaw. Not knowing what to expect, I was determined to see firsthand how women in developing nations care for their families and whether philanthropy truly uplifts them or exploits them. What I discovered changed everything. These women aren’t victims, they’re entrepreneurs, taught to thrive with dignity through microfinance, business training, and unwavering support.

On this episode:
A day after the Federal budget we’re discussing the unfair taxation of solo seniors. We’ll uncover the hidden tax challenges facing solo seniors, who are typically women, since women live longer than men. When a spouse passes, taxes don’t just stay the same—they often jump. Single filers face different brackets and miss out on credits and deductions joint filers enjoy. This means solo seniors often pay more, even with similar incomes. Also, when a spouse passes, they can pass their RRSP/RRIF assets to a spouse tax free. A single senior’s assets can be taxed as high as 50%.
